Everyone has heard of meditation, hot showers, petting zoos and more to relax. Today I'd like to share 5 Little-Known Ways to Relax. They work for me, and I know they will work for you too.
- Sunshine - This may not be little-known, but there are different ways to get your sunshine. Going for a walk is an excellent way, but you can also just open the shades! Just the warm feeling of the sun can reset your breathing and make a huge difference. All it takes is a little Vitamin D, and suddenly, you can tackle anything.
- Getting it All Out (on paper) - I'm a lover of paper. Whether it's stationery paper, pens, stamps... I love it. I find it very relaxing to write with a pen, like the old days. :-) But if writing or journaling isn't your thing, you can also draw. And for those that need a little inspiration, there are fabulous adult coloring books (although, I don't mind kid's coloring books). The point it transferring your energy onto the paper and letting your body take a break.
- Tea - Even if you're a coffee drinker, a warm cup of tea can be very relaxing. And if you choose something like chamomile, then the herbs can help you relax as much as the warmth of the cup. I'm a big fan of Yogi teas, and I have a beautiful collection to turn to when I need to relax.
- Handicrafts - I am always making something. Handicrafts are a superb way to keep your hands & mind busy (inevitably ignoring what is stressing you out). I like to crochet and embroider, but you could try knitting, drawing, sewing, origami or anything that is easy to work on in your lap while relaxing in a comfy chair. Check out Pinterest for thousands of items!
- Letting Sh*t Go - If none of the ideas above suit you then this one is for you! Simply letting shit go is practically a cure-all. Not giving a damn can make a big difference. Sure, you have to care about some things (or some people) but other things you can let go. By doing this, you are letting go of perfection. Let the dishes sit a little longer in the sink, wear the same t-shirt two days in a row (guilty), have the cookie (also guilty). Whatever is causing you to stress, find some part to let go and not think about.
