10 Offbeat Romantic Movies to Watch on Valentine's Day

I love movies. And often, I love the weird, offbeat movies more than anything. So I decided to share a list of romantic movies that doesn't include The Notebook (I'm not judging if you like The Notebook, it's just not for me).
This list is perfect for helping you decide on a great movie to see with your sweetheart on Valentine's Day. I'm sure if you're like me, you'll spend your Valentine's Day sitting at home (hoping your child will stay asleep so you and your sugar-lips can cuddle). I'm sure you'll find a great movie on this list to entertain you both.

1. The Princess Bride (1987) - Maybe you've seen this movie before, but it's totally worth watching again. Plus, it's a movie that everyone can easily enjoy. There is a lot of comedy in this one, but the romance is equally swoon-worthy.

2. Moonstruck (1987) - Cher and Nicolas Cage are a gorgeous couple in this Academy Award winner. Most of the movie is about denying your feelings of love, which often just makes them more passionate.

3. Love Actually (2003) - This may be a Christmas-themed movie, but the big overall theme here is LOVE. Not all of the couples work out, but there is definitely a lot of love all around. I'd have to say, my favorite pair in this movie is David and Natalie (played by Hugh Grant and Martine McCutcheon).

4. Sideways (2004) - What I love about this movie is hope and possibility for love. It's not necessarily a romantic movie so it can appeal to a vast crowd. Also, I love a unique leading man like Miles (played by Paul Giamatti). This is also an Academy Award winning movie.

5. Dear Frankie (2004) - This drama doesn't center on love, but romance comes along for its main characters anyhow. Again, I love the possibility for love in this one. It has you wondering about a possible future for the couple. This movie stars the ever-yummy Gerard Butler.

6. The Lake House (2006) - This movie is a remake of a South Korean film titled Il Mare (which is also fantastic... you can find it here on YouTube). The remake stars Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock. This is probably the only film on this list that is mushy, lovey-dovey like The Notebook. What's great about it is the supernatural undertones. It presents a unique way to find love.

7. Lars and the Real Girl (2007) - This is a heartwarming movie. There is some romantic love... love that Lars has for his "girlfriend" but also unromantic love that comes from the people in Lars' town. In the end, you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. This movie stars Ryan Gosling (who does not act anything like his character in The Notebook.)

8. Enough Said (2013) - This was one of James Gandolfini's last films. It also stars Julia Louis-Dreyfus. What I love about this love story is that it is between an older couple and again, a unique leading man.

9. Warm Bodies (2013) - This is a funny love story. In fact, it's been called a zombie romance. Stay with me here because zombies can be romantic! There is some terror and action in the movie, but it all centers around a romance between a zombie and human girl. You'd be surprised how lovely this kind of love can be.

10. The Shape of Water (2017) - This movie is still in theatres and is looking to win some Oscars. This is a supernatural romance story between a deaf woman and an aquatic man. It has some humor and action along with unmistakable love between the two main characters.

What would you add to this list? I'd love to hear about it in the comments below!
