Four Adjustments I Had to Make to Go Back to Work

Well, I've been back to work for three weeks now. We've had a few bumps in the road my toddler and I. And I guess my husband and I have also had a few bumps in the road.
Being a stay-at-home mom/wife meant I was doing a lot of things that I wouldn't normally do as a working mom/wife... like chores. I was the primary workhorse in the house and now that I was working outside of the house, it meant splitting up the chores more evenly between my husband and me. But I learned quickly that there were many more adjustments I had to make in order to be successful in my working journey.

Here are four adjustments I had to make to go back to work:

  1. I needed clothes! I had yoga pants (a typical SAHM wardrobe)... but I didn't have any work clothes. So I had to go shopping. I mainly bought slacks and a few blouses. Luckily, I had some heels leftover from my working days. After a handful of cash, I finally had a decent business casual wardrobe.
  2. I needed makeup & beauty products! I wasn't wearing makeup as often and I was making do with minimal beauty products. But I couldn't go to work with a messy bun and moisturizer every day. That works for some ladies, but I only feel "normal" with a full-face and proper business up-do.
  3. I had to adjust my meal planning! I would often plan elaborate meals... meals that took longer than 30 minutes to prepare. Now, I'm planning meals that cook up easily and allow some leftovers for the next day's lunch.
  4. I had to start waking up early! Ugh. And going to bed early. Double ugh. I'd never get to work on-time if I didn't wake up before my toddler and husband. They seem to make everything take longer. So now I'm up almost an hour before they are (and before the rooster gets up).

I have a feeling I'll have to make more adjustments as time goes on. But these were the four things I had to fix immediately to start off on the right foot.

What adjustments did you have to make before you went back to work? I'd love to hear your stories in the comments below!
